Bigodi wetland sanctuary is located in Kibale forest national park, 6kms South of Kanyanchu Tourism Information Centre and was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and won an award as one of the best sustainable community projects. It is situated on an area of 4 square kilometers on Magombe swamp at the end of Kibale forest national park. It is a project of the Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development (KAFRED) which aims at protecting the swamp area as well as extending benefits to the surrounding communities.
The wetland is home to over 200 bird species and is a particular site for most bird lovers. This swamp is also mainly known for hosting the Great Blue Turaco.
Other bird species found in the Bigodi sanctuary include the Papyrus Gonolek, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Black Bishop, Black and White Shrike Flycatcher, Western Nicator, and Hairy Breasted Barbet among others. The swamp also boasts of primates for example vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabey.
Tourists traveling to Bigodi wetland sanctuary, are advised to carry warm clothes, comfortable shoes as well as a raincoat since Kibale is a rain forest and it can rain at any time of the day. Binoculars and a good camera for taking good photographs.

Bigodi wetland is located 330 kilometers away from Kampala approximately 5 hours drive and an hour’s drive from Fort Portal city. The swamp is considerably convenient to travelers going to Kibale national park and Queen Elizabeth national park as well.
